We love some good homemade treats and with breakfast being the most important meal of any day it is time to learn how to make some nutritious homemade granola. This granola is the perfect accompaniment to a yogurt parfait or simply on its own with milk. It is full of grains, nuts and dried berries which give it that nice crunch that expensive store-bought granola always has.
2 Cups of Rolled Oats (uncooked)
½ Cup of Raw Nuts (almonds, cashews, etc.)
¼ Cup of Raw Seeds (sunflower or pumpkin)
½ Cup of Unsweetened Dried Fruit
2 to 3 Tablespoons of Coconut Oil
12 Teaspoon of Vanilla Extract
1 Large Pinch of Sea Salt
The best granola is the baked kind, that is what gives it that crunch and mix of flavors. First, you must preheat your oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the oven is heating it is time to prepare the oatmeal mix for baking. You will also need to use your hands to mix it all together so be sure to wash them with soap and water prior to starting.
Now, chop up your nuts of choice and the dried fruit. Place the chopped fruits and nuts in the bowl and pour the oats, seeds, vanilla extract and the salt on top of them. The coconut oil will probably be solid and if it is you will want to heat it up over medium heat in a saucepan or in the microwave. You can also just warm it with your hands but this will take a bit longer. It is time for the fun part, get your hands into the mixture and mix it all together until everything is coated with oil and extract.
Once everything is mixed together it is time to grab a baking tray. You should line the tray with parchment paper to ensure that the oatmeal does not stick to the tray which will not give it a very nice texture. Once it is evenly distributed on the baking sheet, place it in the oven and let it bake for ten minutes. Then place it on the counter and let it cool before you store it in an airtight container in which it will last for around two weeks if it is not refrigerated.
Now your breakfast cereal is all ready for you to eat next morning and it is very easy to whip up a new batch and play with the ingredients!
