Happy Hour Hors d’oeuvres Ideas

Sitting down with friends at a happy hour can be a nice way to destress after a long day of work. You get to sip on your favorite wine, nibble on some bar snacks, and catch up but happy hours can be a very noisy time. If you want to relax with your friends away from all of the hustle and bustle of a crowded bar then consider having one at your own home. That way you can select the wine, prepare a special cocktail, and best of making some amazing hors d’oeuvre for your friends to enjoy. The following are some ideas for hors d’ oeuvres that you could easily put your own twist on.

Bruschetta

This small dish wish features toasted pieces of baguette with a delicate chopped tomato, onion, and parmesan mixture on top is easy to make and delicious. You can also mix it up by using asiago cheese, capers, or incorporating seafood. A shrimp on top of chopped onion, capers, and a garlic aioli is always a nice flavor combo.

Cheese

You can go with a classic cheese plate with brie, sharp cheddar, gouda, and the list goes on. Having some cheese that is paired with wine is always a necessity. But have you considered that cheese is also delicious when it is stuffed or baked? One fan favorite is blue cheese stuffed dates, with bacon or prosciutto wrapped around it and baked in the oven. If you are not a blue cheese fan then you can substitute a plain goats cheese. These little snacks will burst with cheesy goodness, the sweetness from the date, and the saltiness from the meat.

Quiche

Mini-quiches which you can bake in a muffin tin so as to create the perfect bite-sized treat are always an easy go-to. All you need to do is quickly make a pie shell or buy mini pie shells, pop them in the muffin tin and then select a variety of different fillings. You can use broccoli, bacon and onion, sweet potato and whatever else you have in your fridge. Then just pour the easy custard concoction on top and you have a bunch of different nibbles for your guests.

Just remember, as your guests come to love your hors d’oeuvres they will want you to start hosting a happy hour on the regular. Consider coming up with a weekly or monthly rotation where each one of your friends hosts a gathering that way everyone contributes and it gives you something to look forward to!
